Our Merzouga 4×4 tour begins with a pick-up from your accommodation. First, we will visit Hassi Labied oasis, a garden near the sand dunes that is maintained by locals. Here, you will see how villagers collect water from the dunes using a traditional irrigation system.
Next, we head to Merzouga Lake, a seasonal water body that attracts migratory birds when it is full. If the lake is dry, we can skip this stop.
2nd Visit: Khamlia village - Gnawa Music
When we reach Khamlia village, you will have the chance to listen to and enjoy Gnawa music, performed by locals with Sub-Saharan roots. Their music and dance reflect their history and traditions, which date back to their ancestors’ time as slaves.
3rd visit: Black desert & Nomadic Families
Our journey continues into the Black Desert, known for its volcanic stones. Our first stop will be at a mountain viewpoint, offering a stunning panoramic view of the area. Next, we head to Mifis Village, a historic site built by the French during colonization. This place is also called the Mines Village because of its mineral mines, where some Moroccan workers are still active today.
After that, we will visit a nomadic family who still live in traditional tents. Here, we will enjoy a cup of tea and experience their unique desert lifestyle.
